There's no denying that many of us include toast as part of our breakfast routine.
While toast, and many of it's usual toppings are not a part of the Smart for Life diet, we know that many will indulge in this popular morning snack anyway.
So, let's explore how you can make your toast just a little bit healthier next time.
- Go Italian with Bruschetta
Slice up some tomatoes, onions, and basil for the perfect morning bruschetta. Finish with a very small amount of olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and you have an incredibly tasty, but healthier alternative to your morning toast!
- Low Calorie Cottage Cheese
Cottage Cheese has come a long way in the last few years. With protein-packed, low calorie options now available in stores, there's no reason why you can't use some to spice up your morning toast. YUM!
- Hummus & Toast? Yes Please.
You've probably tried hummus on crackers or perhaps nan bread. But what about your toast? Hummus is also high and protein and pairs perfectly with a nice piece of toast. Try it next time!
- Avacados Strike Again
Another ingredient that's gained huge popularity in the last few years. Avacados are full of great ingredients like protein, fiber and folate just to name a few. With just a sprinkle of salt and pepper, you'll love avacado on toast. It looks amazing too.
- Peanut Butter & Banana
Another classic combination, but perhaps not often used on toast. Use a healthy butter with chopped banana for a yummy potassium rich breakfast.
- Eggs on Toast
Ok, you've probably tried this one before but it's still worth noting. Although healthiest in a hard boiled state, even scrambled eggs can contain a great source of protein and B Vitamins.
